Captions available
The idea
Samuel Langhorne Clemens was born in Florida, Missouri, and grew up in Hannibal on the Mississippi, which supplied the settings for his best work. Apprenticed as a printer, he spent eighteen months learning to pilot riverboats, and took his pen name from a riverman's call for the depth of water.
In practice
A printer, a pilot, a river.
Where people slip
The board spells the surname Clemens.
