ACT Preparation / Unit 7   ACT 0626 short lesson, about 20 seconds

The Percent Equation

Captions available

The idea

The percent equation is amount = percent × base. Any one of the three can be found from the other two, with the percent written as a decimal.

In practice

15% of 80 is 0.15 × 80 = 12. 18 is what percent of 72? 18 ÷ 72 = 0.25, or 25%.

Where people slip

The base is the number the percent is taken of.
