ACT Preparation / Unit 4 ACT 0301 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Wordiness Is Filler, Not Length
Captions available
The idea
Wordiness means words that add no meaning. It is not the number of words, the amount of detail, or the length of a piece.
In practice
"The fact of the matter is that the bus is late" becomes "The bus is late."
Where people slip
A long sentence full of needed detail is not wordy. Cut words only when the meaning survives without them.
Your place on the trail
Every lesson rests on earlier ones and opens later ones. Tap any to jump.
Builds on
- Nothing. This is a starting point.
