ACT Preparation / Unit 3   ACT 0205 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Singular Indefinite Pronouns

Captions available

The idea

Most indefinite pronouns take a singular verb: anyone, anybody, anything, each, everyone, everybody, everything, nobody, no one, nothing, one, someone, somebody and something.

In practice

"Everyone in the choir sings." "Each of the rooms has a window."

Where people slip

Everyone sounds like a crowd, but grammatically it is singular, and so is each.
