ACT Preparation / Unit 3 ACT 0203 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Words Between Subject and Verb
Captions available
The idea
Words that come between a subject and its verb, such as a phrase beginning with of or with, do not change the subject.
In practice
"The list of chores is long": the subject is list, not chores.
Where people slip
Cover the phrase and read the subject and verb together: the list is long. A plural noun inside the phrase is a decoy.
