The idea
A control group matches the experimental group in every feature except the treatment being tested. It shows what happens without that treatment, for comparison.
In practice
Beans grown under ordinary white light serve as the control for beans under colored light.
Where people slip
Without a control group, there is nothing to compare the treated results against.
