ACT Preparation / Unit 17 ACT 1620 short lesson, about 20 seconds
The Narrator Is Not the Author
Captions available
The idea
The narrator is the voice that tells a story; the author is the person who wrote it. A narrator's opinions and mistakes belong to the narrator.
In practice
An author can write a narrator who misjudges everyone around him, so readers see what he cannot.
Where people slip
Answer narrator questions from the narrator's words, and author questions from the work as a whole.
