ACT Preparation / Unit 17 ACT 1619 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Third-Person Narrators
Captions available
The idea
A third-person narrator uses he, she and they and omits I. Such a narrator can be all-seeing, knowing any character's thoughts, past and future.
In practice
"Neither brother knew the other had already sold the farm" reports what no character could know alone.
Where people slip
Third person often reads as objective, and some forms of third person stay close to a single character.
