ACT Preparation / Unit 14   ACT 1302 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Parallelograms and Trapezoids

Captions available

The idea

A parallelogram's area is base times height. A trapezoid's area is one half the height times the sum of its two parallel bases.

In practice

A trapezoid with bases 8 and 12 and height 5 has area ½ × 5 × 20 = 50.

Where people slip

Use the perpendicular height, not the slanted side, for both.
