Change of Base

The idea

Any logarithm can be rewritten in another base: log_b x = log x / log b, using common or natural logs.

In practice

log₂ 10 = log 10 / log 2 = 1 / 0.3010, about 3.32.

Where people slip

Divide the logs; do not take the log of the quotient: log 10 / log 2 is not log 5.
