ACT Preparation / Unit 12   ACT 1101 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Exponential Functions

Captions available

The idea

An exponential function has the form f(x) = a·bˣ, with b > 0 and b ≠ 1. The constant a is the initial value, the output when x = 0.

In practice

f(x) = 500(1.04)ˣ starts at 500 and is multiplied by 1.04 for each step in x.

Where people slip

The variable sits in the exponent; x² is a different family.
