The idea
Muhammad, born about five seventy to the Quraysh, married Khadija and traded with Christians and Jews. About forty, the tradition holds, the archangel Gabriel called him to the one God of Abraham. Mecca resisted; in six twenty-two he fled to Medina, the Hijra, year one.

Exclusivity threatened Mecca's pilgrim economy.
