Drama Born of Dionysus: Chorus, Tragedy, Hubris
Captions available
The idea
Drama grew from choruses at Dionysus festivals scripted into plays, the chorus as narrator. Tragedy shows a powerful man undone by a flaw, usually hubris, or by fate, and uses pathos to draw sympathy. Aeschylus, Sophocles and Euripides, names the witnesses supply, wrote them.
In practice
Human choice at the center; few happy endings.
Where people slip
The anchor never names the tragedians. The exam does.
