Deviant Subcultures
Captions available
The idea
A deviant subculture is a group whose members share norms the wider society rejects, supplying one another with support and justification.
In practice
The group supplies techniques, status, and an account that makes the conduct defensible to its members.
Where people slip
Inside the group the conduct is conforming, which is the point.
