Industrial Societies
Captions available
The idea
Industrial societies use mechanized production and external energy sources, concentrating work in factories and populations in cities.
In practice
Steam and then electricity move production out of the household and into a building people travel to.
Where people slip
Treating industrialization as merely new machinery misses the reorganization of family life and time it forced alongside the technology.
