Credentialism is the emphasis on certificates or degrees as proof a person holds a given skill or qualification.
In practice
Two equally capable applicants can be treated differently by an employer based solely on which one holds the credential.
Where people slip
A credential signals achievement of a standard; it is not identical to the skill the credential is meant to certify.
