Age Stratification Theory

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Age stratification theory holds that a society is layered by age much as by race, class, and gender, each cohort holding different access.

Show

Norms about what is appropriate "for your age" enforce the layering, as norms enforce other stratification.

Watch for

Critics note the theory can flatten differences within an age cohort, such as between an older man and woman of the same age.
