The Strange Situation

The idea
Ainsworth's Strange Situation is a structured observation assessing attachment through an infant's response to separation and reunion.
In practice
A caregiver leaves and returns twice while the infant's exploration and reunion behavior are coded.
Where people slip
The reunion is what is scored, not the separation. Distress at leaving distinguishes little.
