The idea
Negative reinforcement removes an unpleasant condition after a behavior, increasing that behavior's frequency.
In practice
Fastening a seatbelt stops the alarm chime, and the driver fastens it sooner each time.
Where people slip
Negative here means something was removed. The behavior still goes up, which is what makes it reinforcement.
