Psychology / Unit 3   Psych 0299 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Jet Lag

Captions available

The idea

Jet lag is the mismatch between the internal circadian rhythm and the local light-dark cycle after rapid travel across time zones.

In practice

A traveler landing in a new time zone is fully alert at three in the morning local time for several nights.

Where people slip

The tiredness is real and the cause is timing, not distance. Resynchronizing takes roughly a day per zone.
