The idea
Group polarization is the strengthening of a group's initial average position after members discuss it among themselves.
In practice
A mildly favorable committee becomes strongly favorable after an hour of discussion with no new information.
Where people slip
Polarization moves the group further in the direction it already leaned. It does not create the direction.
