Principles of Macroeconomics / Unit 2 MAC 0110 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Shift versus Movement Along
Captions available
The idea
A change in a good's own price moves you along its curve. A change in anything else shifts the whole curve.
In practice
A sale moves buyers along the curve; a rise in income moves the curve itself.
Where people slip
Moving along is a change in quantity demanded; shifting is a change in demand. This is the subject's most common error.
