Hierarchical Freedom
Captions available
The idea
Frankfurt's hierarchical account: you act freely when the desire moving you is a desire you endorse—your will matches what you want your will to be.
In practice
The unwilling addict acts on a desire he hates; the willing addict embraces his. Same behavior, different freedom.
Where people slip
Endorsement can regress—who endorses the endorsing? The account owns the question.
