Indeterminism

The idea
Indeterminism: some events are not fixed by prior causes—quantum physics suggests genuine chance operates at nature's base.
In practice
A single radioactive atom's decay time is, on standard interpretations, undetermined—no hidden cause sets the moment.
Where people slip
Chance is not yet freedom. An undetermined choice might be random rather than yours—a problem coming shortly.
