The idea
An inductive argument is cogent when it is strong AND its premises are actually true. Cogency is induction's version of soundness.
In practice
A strong sample-based argument built on real, honestly gathered data: cogent.
Where people slip
Strong + false premises = not cogent. Polling from a rigged sample can be "strong" in form and worthless in fact.
