January Sixth
The idea
On January sixth, two thousand twenty-one, thousands of Trump's supporters, rallied that morning near the White House, marched on the Capitol to stop the certification of the election, the Yawp records. They attacked the police officers barricading the building, breached the barriers and occupied the rotunda, the Senate chamber and legislative offices, among them Speaker Nancy Pelosi's. The National Guard cleared them that evening, and Congress stayed into the night to certify the result.
In practice
Police officers beaten with flagpoles, and legislators fumbling with gas masks in their chambers.
Where people slip
The Yawp says nothing like it had ever happened in American history. Even so, eleven Republican senators and one hundred fifty of the House's two hundred twelve Republicans objected to certification, and a little over a month later the Senate did not convict Trump at his second impeachment trial, for incitement of insurrection.
