The idea
Early on June twenty-eighth, nineteen sixty-nine, the anchor says, police raided the Stonewall Inn, a gay bar in Greenwich Village; Digital History dates the raid June twenty-seventh.
In practice
Patrons resisting instead of submitting, and riots in the streets over two nights.
Where people slip
Such raids were common, the anchor notes; the resistance was not.
