In April nineteen sixty-one about fourteen hundred Cuban exiles, under plans inherited from Eisenhower, landed at the Bay of Pigs to overthrow Fidel Castro.

The Yawp says the fiasco strengthened Castro and embarrassed Kennedy. Digital History records the prisoners exchanged in nineteen sixty-two for food and medicine.
