History of the United States II / Unit 11   USH2 1551 short lesson, about 20 seconds

The AAA and Black Farmers

Captions available

The idea

Forty percent of Black workers were sharecroppers and tenant farmers, Digital History records, so the acreage reductions of the Agricultural Adjustment Administration fell hard on them.

In practice

More than one hundred thousand Black farmers forced off the land in nineteen thirty-three and nineteen thirty-four.

Where people slip

Landlords, Digital History explains, earned more leaving land idle than farming it with tenants.
