The idea
In nineteen thirty-one nine Black teenagers were arrested in Alabama and tried at Scottsboro on charges of raping two White women.
In practice
One of the women later recanting her testimony, and an all-White jury convicting most of the defendants anyway.
Where people slip
The Supreme Court overturned the convictions, and Alabama issued posthumous pardons in twenty thirteen. The Yawp calls the accusation unjust.
