The First List of Un-American Activities
Captions available
The idea
The delegates banned horse races, cockfights, theatre and elaborate funerals, which the anchor calls the first list of un-American activities.
In practice
Cockfighting condemned as immoral, with roosters fitted with razors and fought to the death.
Where people slip
Racing and cockfighting encouraged gambling that threatened unity, and theatre was held to drain working people's money and teach deception.
