Captions available

The idea

Luther, a German Catholic monk, objected to the selling of indulgences, the Church's taxation of ordinary Germans, and mass delivered in Latin, which taught them nothing.

In practice

The Ninety-Five Theses nailed to a church door at Wittenberg in fifteen seventeen.

Where people slip

He hoped to reform the Church from inside it, and triggered the Reformation instead.
