Prompt Design

The idea
Prompt design, which the DAIR.AI guide calls prompt engineering, is writing prompts that instruct a model to perform the task you actually want.
In practice
The guide's opening example: a bare sentence fragment gets an ordinary continuation, while adding the instruction to complete the sentence gets the task done as asked.
Where people slip
Design means instruction, not clever wording; the guide finds directness works better.
