Evidence-Based Practice / Unit 6 EBP 0842 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Number Needed to Treat
Captions available
The idea
The number needed to treat is the inverse of the absolute risk reduction: how many people must be treated for one more to benefit.
In practice
An absolute reduction of seven and a half points, giving about thirteen.
Where people slip
It comes from the absolute reduction, never the relative one. That is why it cannot be inflated the way a relative figure can.
