Evidence-Based Practice / Unit 6   EBP 0834 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Relative Risk

Captions available

The idea

Relative risk, or risk ratio, divides one group's absolute risk by the other's, giving how many times more or less likely the outcome was.

In practice

A risk of three in a hundred against two in a hundred: one and a half times.

Where people slip

Relative risk is used in prospective studies — trials and cohort studies — because both risks can be calculated from them.
