Evidence-Based Practice / Unit 4   EBP 0479 short lesson, about 20 seconds

Certainty

Captions available

The idea

Certainty is the level of sureness that a clinical action will produce the intended outcome, and it is the key criterion for the quality of the knowledge underlying that action.

In practice

Two supported actions: one that reliably produces its outcome, one that often does not.

Where people slip

Certainty is about the knowledge, not the clinician's feeling. Confidence and certainty are not the same thing.
