Applying the Seven Requirements

The idea

The technique: run a project against all seven requirements rather than against consent alone; establish that the work is worth doing and rigorous enough to answer its question; select fairly; weigh risk including risk to privacy; obtain independent review whatever the project is called; and publish at the weight the design actually carries.

In practice

A project taken through the seven before it starts. Its local value stated, so that whether it is worth doing is answered rather than assumed. Its methods held to the standard its design implies, because a weak project spends people's time for a finding nobody can rely on. Fairness located where it actually sits here — not in recruitment, which the setting decides, but in the choice of where to run the project at all. Risk weighed with privacy counted as a risk. Independent review sought without waiting to be told the work counts as research. Fidelity kept high, so the risk profile stays the one the evidence described. And the results shared afterwards, including unsuccessful ones, written at level four and not dressed above it.

Where people slip

Do not let consent stand in for the other six. A project with a signed form, no independent review, no stated local value and a design too weak to answer its question has satisfied one requirement of seven and failed the rest, and the form will make it look finished.
