Incompatibilism

The idea
Incompatibilism holds that determinism and free will cannot share a world: a choice fixed by prior causes is not a free choice.
In practice
If a defendant's genes and upbringing fixed the theft, an incompatibilist concludes that real responsibility never found a foothold there.
