The Knight's Tale and the Miller's Answer
Captions available
The idea
The Knight tells the first tale, a story of courtly love. The Host then calls on the Monk, but the drunken Miller, insisting he is as good as a better man, interrupts with a tale to "quite," or repay, the Knight's. Rank and rivalry drive the frame.
In practice
The noble tale, and its rude reply.
Where people slip
Tales answer tales; read them as pairs.
