Hybridity and the Migrant Novel
Captions available
The idea
Hybridity, a term theorized above all by Homi Bhabha in The Location of Culture, describes identities formed between cultures. Migrant fiction explores it: Sam Selvon's The Lonely Londoners, of nineteen fifty-six, follows Caribbean migrants of the Windrush generation in London, told in creolised English.
In practice
Between cultures; migrants in London.
Where people slip
Hybridity is Bhabha's term.
