The idea

Angela Carter's The Bloody Chamber, of nineteen seventy-nine, rewrites traditional fairy tales to subvert their assumptions; Carter said she meant to extract their latent content. Her Nights at the Circus was later named the best ever winner of the James Tait Black Prize.

In practice

Fairy tales rewritten.
