The idea

Frances Burney published Evelina anonymously in seventeen seventy-eight, an epistolary novel of a young lady's "entrance into the world," a girl raised in rural seclusion who meets London society. Her satirical novels of manners anticipated Jane Austen, who read and enjoyed them.
