Educational Psychology / Unit 9 EDP 0815 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Cooperation, Participation and Time
Captions available
The idea
Students with interdependent selves may prefer cooperation over competition, avoid the public initiate-respond-evaluate exchange in which a teacher asks, a student answers and the teacher judges, and treat time as interpersonal rather than by the clock.
In practice
A student who will not answer alone may answer eagerly after conferring with a group.
Where people slip
Varying participation structures lets more students take part.
