Computer Science / Unit 10 CS 0563 short lesson, about 20 seconds
Bare Metal to Serverless
Captions available
The idea
Deployment technologies span from bare metal — dedicated physical servers, with provisioning, maintaining, and scaling on the customer — to serverless computing, the provider carrying all three burdens.
In practice
A trading desk on dedicated machines and a photo-resizing function on serverless sit at opposite ends.
Where people slip
"Serverless" has servers; the burden moved, not the hardware.
