Pipelining

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

Pipelining divides instruction execution into phases — fetch, decode, issue, execute, commit — each phase handing forward and taking the next instruction, overlapping as temporal parallelism.

Show

A rail yard's stations service five trains at once, one per stage of the trip.

Watch for

Smaller phases, all busy at once — the whole win.
