The idea
A value that outgrows its data type's range overflows — a forecast failure with public consequences, repaired by moving to a larger type after the fact.
In practice
A video platform's view counter, sized to a limit near two billion, met a video that passed it.
Where people slip
Ranges are cliffs, not suggestions.
