An electron absorbs a photon to jump to a higher energy level, and emits one falling back to a lower level.

Show

An electron falling from a higher hydrogen level to a lower one emits a photon whose energy equals that gap.

Watch for

A transition's photon energy is fixed by the gap between levels — no in-between energies are emitted or absorbed.
