An extensive property is a property whose value depends on how much matter is present, in direct proportion to the amount.

A long coil of copper wire has more mass than a short piece cut from the same coil, because mass is extensive.

Watch for

Doubling a sample always changes an extensive property's value, so it cannot alone identify what a substance is.
