In practice
Technetium-99m concentrates in damaged heart, liver, or lung tissue; its gamma emissions, detected outside the body, locate the damage.
Where people slip
A tracer's usefulness comes from emissions detectable in small, safe quantities, not from direct intervention at the site studied.
