Common-Ion Effect on Solubility

This video presents the same text shown beside it, spoken and on screen. It adds nothing the text does not say.

State

The common-ion effect lowers a solid's solubility when a solution already holds one of its ions, raising Q above Ksp and shifting the equilibrium back toward undissolved solid.

Show

AgCl dissolves less in a solution already containing NaCl than in pure water.

Watch for

This is not a new rule beyond Le Châtelier — the same Q-vs-K stress applied to solubility.
